films, long weekends and stuff

wtf is going on with the weather? long weekend was mostly spent watching lots of stuff on tv/dvd.
  • deja-vu, big pile of poo, i tried to convince myself it was enjoyable enough but the fact is I'll never get those two hours back. hmmm Em is always right about films
  • stranger than fiction, hollywood trailers are crap aren't they? i thought this film looked pretty poor from the trailer, turns out its a really nice film with some great acting and dialog (dustin hoffman always a winner but will farrell, emma thompson and maggie gyllenhaal are all really really good). should also mention Em is always right about films, including this one
  • big nothing, simon pegg and ross out of friends make the best of a pretty poor script. made me laugh but mostly because I love simon pegg so much (best bit though was simon pegg accidentally punching one of the writers, billy asher, who also plays a cop in the film).
  • twin peaks season 2, been waiting for a decent version of this to come out on dvd for ages as I've only ever seen season 1 (and fwwm), crazy bonkers stuff, still really enjoying it only about 5 episodes left will be interesting to see how they left it at the end of the season
got in some windsurfing on monday and twisted my back trying to do stupid freestyle stuff (again), have just about updated all my kit now (phew, expensive few months) thanks god for e-bay! anyone want to buy a mini cooper convertible?

annoying stuff: bought some trainers on ebay without really thinking about it, some guy has totally ripped me off sending me a pair of dodgy imitation nike dunks from china, grrr. using paypal to try and get the money back but not looking good right now.

great films what i have watched recently

hot fuzz - just as good as I hoped it would be. my lovely wife took me to see this on valentines day :D go and see it, yarp!

the departed - watched this the night after seeing hot fuzz expecting it to be alright but was completely blown away by it. Jack Nicholson is top notch, and Di-caprio is also a bit good. Best film I've seen in ages. Best Scorcese in yonks.

a scanner darkly - Richard Linklater's adaptation of the Philip K Dick novel of the same name. The animation technique is dead cool and fits the mood of the story brilliantly. It's weird and confusing and Robert Downey Jnr is very amusing indeed (especially compared with Canoe 4 by 2 Reeves).
